Sandakan - Home of the headhunter, longhouses, ancient virgin rainforests and the largest caves in the world, Sarawak is a place full of history and exotic adventure. With a tribal culture still very evident this is an exiting place to explore or just relax in one the beachside resorts.No visitor to Sandakan should miss exploring the Central Market, where a fascinating mixture of people rub shoulders as they bargain for tropical fruit and vegetables, sarongs and seashells, spices and sticky rice cakes. The fish market, Sabah's largest, offers a stunning array of seafood. Sandakan is also where the Australian War Memorial is situated.

Sepilok - Is the home to the Sepilok Orang Utan (Orangutans) Rehabilitation Centre, a tropical lowland rainforest sanctuary where scores of the primate roam freely.
Kinabatangan River - Experience the pristine rainforest and a plethora of animals like the Clouded Leopard, Asian Elephant, Crocodiles, Civet Cats, Otters, all eight species of Hornbills found in Borneo, Egrets, magnificent Kingfishers, Storks, Hawks and the incredible Oriental darter which dive into rivers and lakes to pursue fish! But the most amazing spectacle is the bizarre Proboscis Monkey found nowhere else in the world except Borneo. You may even sight an Orang Utan making it's home in the trees.

Sipadan -

Selingan Island - With white sandy beaches and the waters surrounding it beautiful and clear, Selingan makes an excellent destination for resting and relaxation for the whole family. Famous for its Green and Hawksbill turtles, July to October are particularly good months because more turtles come ashore to lay their eggs. However, visitors are assured that at least a few turtles do come up to nest every night of the year.

From the vibrant capital of Kota Kinabalu to the majestic Mount Kinabalu, the highest in South East Asia, Sabah will entrance you with is laidback lifestyle and tropical splendour.

History
Up until the mid-fifteenth century, Sabah was nominally under the reign of the Sultans of Sulu and Brunei, then a quiet haven of riverine settlements and jungle clearings. The Second World War brought the Japanese to Sabah and with them the beginning of the end of the colonial era. Sabah suffered heavily during the War and Sandakan and Kota Kinabalu were destroyed by American bombings in the dying days of the War. There are three memorials - one on the foothills of Mount Kinabalu, Kundasang and another in Sandakan, commemorating the death march that claimed the lives of all but six of the 2,400 men who marched from Sandakan to Ranau; and the third at Petagas on the west coast honouring the brave but ill-fated 'Double 10' revolt in 1943, in which a resistance group succeeded in seizing Jesselton for a day and a night before they were forced to retreat by the Japanese. Subsequent history has been peaceful by comparison and Merdeka, or Independence, was granted on the 16 September 1963 to the state within the Federation of Malaysia.

Today
Set between lush, tropical hills and fronting emerald green waters, Kota Kinabalu is a city of exciting contrasts - vibrant and exciting yet serene and uplifting, with its eco-treasures from top to bottom. Sabah state, 28,417 sq mi (73,600 sq km), Malaysia, North Borneo, on the South China and Sulu seas, is bordered on the south by Kalimantan (Indonesian Borneo). The capital city is Kota Kinabalu; other significant towns are Sandakan and Tawau. The terrain is diverse with golden sandy n and Kota Kinabalu were destroyed by American bombings in the dying days of the War.
